Leaky gut syndrome is a health condition that occurs when the cells of the mucosal walls, which are inside the small intestine, become damaged. The intercellular spaces widen, grow larger, thus allowing undigested food particles and waste to make their way into the blood stream. The reaction can cause a plethora of immuno-deficiency diseases and cause great pain and discomfort. So, what are the reasons for leaky gut syndrome?

Firstly, it’s important to understand that leaky gut syndrome doesn’t occur quickly. It’s a condition that makes itself known over time and is often misdiagnosed as other digestive related issues. Often times, when the symptoms do finally appear, you may need medical attention and or medication. It’s not uncommon to be prescribed anti-inflammatory or antibiotic drugs. It is said that some over the counter medicines such as heartburn relief products can contribute to leaky gut conditions so it’s always a good idea to speak with your doctor for the correct prescriptions and medicines to avoid.

Leaky gut syndrome can happen to people with a host of pre-existing medical conditions including but not limited to people who have: colitis, pancreatis, HIV, AIDS, and gastro-intestinal diseases. So, it’s vital to work hard to keep your gut healthy to prevent further worsening of your leaky gut syndrome.

Some of the foods you should avoid, if you’re suffering from leaky gut syndrome, include refinded sugars, white flour, processed foods, etc. as these can all weaken the immune system. If your system becomes weakened and your liver cannot filter out the toxins, you’re going to suffer even more so from leaky gut syndrome.

So, speak to a doctor or medical consultant to first find out if you indeed have leaky gut syndrome and if so, be sure to follow their dietary advice to help prevent and eventually overcome your leaky gut syndrome.
